Happy Tamil new year, Priya! I hope you dished up a feast. I loved how you conjured up the “accordion” between train compartments:) I would encounter it every year on our annual trip to Chennai. As a child I’d be spooked wondering if it’d detach itself, yikes:) But thresholds can be all good too!

Anu, thank you! My husband and I cooked together and it was great! I don’t think I ever used the accordion connector, but definitely watched more adventurous relatives try it. And, yes, thresholds can be all good too! I guess if they are good, we aren’t reading what someone writes about it!

It's neat the Vedic calendar begins w/ the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. I'd say for those at the verge of a threshold, hold onto your hat and attempt calmness, or patience at the very least. Thresholds, often life-changing, can also be disorienting, though new worlds await on the 'other's side. Thanks for this thoughtful post, Priya and Happy New Year!

My pleasure.

I love your metaphors. Switching train cars and navigating between Lilly pads. One abrupt the other dainty.

I can go everywhere with metaphors and have to be forcibly restrained. Thanks, Carissa!

I love the image of the lily pad as a metaphor for threshold.
